To define waves and curls: Scoop a quarter-sized amount into hand, and rub palms together to warm and liquefy the gel. Use fingertips to apply gel to hair, smoothing from roots to the ends. Use fingers or wide tooth comb to ensure complete, even application. To create volume and enhance curls, scrunch and push up ends toward scalp after gel is applied. Air dry or use diffuser.
To create large curls and waves: Separate hair into 4-8 even sections. Twist each section into single twist or two strand twist. Air dry or use diffuser, separate twists with fingers after hair is dry.
WHEN DRY THE FLAKES APPEAR
Oh My Gosh! So much product hype on UTube about using this products for twists and braid outs that I had to give my review. To the point, the Shea Butter Curl Defining Gel leaves flakes on the hair when it is dry. I placed a small amount on several 1 inch sections of damp hair, then did a 2 strand twist and let the product air dry for one day. The next day I removed the twists and found I had a chest and shoulder of dandruff looking flakes on my clothes. My scalp and hair were clean, so all the flakes came from the product.
I thought maybe I did not used enough, so I will wash my hair and start over, this time I won’t do a twist out, I will use the product as directed on the label. Another good idea gone bad by another poorly designed product. After I product air dried my hair shrank and I again had hair full dry product flakes.
What a shame, it is fair trade product company but this stuff will not work on Texture 4 hair. For Kinky Hair Don’t waste money on the gel, you will always get flakes in the hair no matter what you do.
I am going to give the product another attempt this time with the Shea Butter Curl Activating Cream. My hair is 12 inches long when wet, but will shrink to 1 inch dry, no kidding. I have a lot of shrinkage which is to be expected with my hair texture. The Beautiful Curls Curl Activating Gel did not significantly reduce the shrinkage, when dry after using the Gel the hair shrank to 2 inches and I did have defined tight curls, but the flakes throughout the hair are obvious and no one wants clean hair that looks like it was sprinkled in dead skin.
